Stereotypes 1L 2016-2017
Look at the following commercials, and give your opinion, what do you think?
What do you think is the consequence of such adverts, if any? Give your opinion, but don't make long sentences, be concise and react to what the others say! (and don't forget to use what we said in class about the stereotypes)
Plus what do you think about the picture below? do you find it cute or rather shocking?

But do you think it's normal that ads for dolls are only for girls (pink colors, little girls...) ...?

I can't support those adds, why girls play to "mum and dad" and boys to cars? Why not the opposite? In adds women seem supercials or submissives to their husband. Men and Women are equal and could have the same interest.

Amandine, did you like to play with dolls when you were a child? or with cars? Or both?
Is it ok today for a little boy to play with dolls?

I think that these advertisements to create from the youngest age of stereotypes between girls and boy. I do not find it well because we already conditioned them.
Then why do not to make the opposite?
I think that it is an idea which disturbs still too much the society.

As we can see, the 60's ad show that time ago sexism was so commun and normal that it didn't disgust people to watch it on tv. We could think that 67 years later this way of thinking have changed but it's the opposite. Indeed these ad for toys are based on stereotypes on boys and girls : pinky cutie dolls and adorable baby dolls for girls and war planes and violence for boys. the problem is that these adverts strenght the stereotypes about what girls and boys should be and consequently it make a space between the two genders and finally it creates sexism.

What about the last ad in black and white?
It's not about toys, so what's the common point with the others? What's the message in this one?

When I was a child, I admit that I played a lot with dolls, but sometimes I played cars with my little brother too.
I think that this boy who plays with dolls probably receive teasing, and that's unfair. People need to have the right to play with what they want, but the society make stereoptypes and received ideas.

I agree with you Laulau, it's a bad thing, childs are conditioned withtout realizing it, the stereotypes can't stop to grow up if we are configured at the youngest moment of our life. I think that a boy can play with dollies if he want, and the same for girls, they can't play with cars or Catch Ttacks figures if they want.

my opinion about stereotypes
To my mind , unfortunately this stereotypes exist since long time and continue to exist in the head of some people. This ad strengthen all these ideas receipt, when a girl look at this ad with dolls with little girl who takes care of these dolls , she understand that she is for her, she should be play with that, she understand that this a toy just for girl and finally this ad re indirectly going to show to girls that they have were made to be a mother and to be nothing else. It's like when I go to the stores, when I arrive in radius for girl I see that the toy for girl are : vacuuming, mop, iron... it's incredible to sell this toy, all these, show to little girl that their destiny is to be housewifes to do cleaning.
For boys, people sell like toys : shoot, guns, planes and now boys understand that rthey are strong that they can to fight and when girls see that they understand that there are big difference between boys and girl and they think that it's normal but ilt's not normal

In all these videos we can see a lot of stereotypes between boys and girls: the boys have got army toys and the girls have got baby doll. we can see stereotypes about colours. Girls, pink and boys blue. Let's talk about the video about the stereotype between men and women: the woman must make a coffee and the man wait to his coffee cup.

I agree with you, stereotypes are still here and it causes to much sexism. But today there are some adds who fight againt those received ideas. For exemple in a sport add we can see a girl playing football or other sports that are "normally" for boys. And I think that if advertizers make more add like this, it could make the world progress.

Re: Stereotypes 1L 2016-2017
I agree with Amandine, but I think that a boy who plays with dolls will receive many more teasing than a girl who plays cars. While it is similar only the diversity shocks more at the boy's.
Another example a girl who wears of the blue will shock less that a boy dressed in pink.

This sexy woman have no common point with this fat burger. It's a shame to see how the woman figure is used to apppeal cosstumers and particulary men. They don't care if the women only are a big pair of boobs and a nice butt while it make the item sold.

Re: Stereotypes 1L 2016-2017
I agree with what you say, that some companies make efforts not to put sexist elements in their ads, showing girls playing sports, or boys playing with dolls,
but the opposite is true as well...The ad for the burgers is just an example, but a lot of half naked women are used to sell cars, soap, jeans...is it really necessary?
